Two photographs

Getting to that time of year when I look back and choose my favourite photographs posted to Flickr over the past year. I began to do this last night and the thing I noticed was this year I posted far fewer images to my two Flickr accounts than 2015. Last year, between the two accounts I posted close on 700 photographs. This year between the two it will just be over 200. Over the next few weeks, I will be choosing an iPhone photograph and a non-iPhone photograph from each month of the year and writing a little background as to why I have chosen those images.

For today, I am posting two shots. One DSLR, taken in Vilnius – part of a little series of images. The curious thing about this is that I had not a title ready for it, but when I uploaded to Flickr, from some reason the title I gave it was the same as the Apple shot. No reason why and not even sure why. But you have to go with these things at times.

God will send a sign. When he does, be prepared.

The iPhone image is from my trip to Porto back in June. I shot a lot from this scene. I like this particular one because of the bird in the scene. Hope you like it too.

Janine Graf and The New Yorker Magazine

When time passes and the excitement of being part of the Apple World Gallery is over, the things that will stay with me will be the kindness of people and the genuine happiness that people shared with me in this experience.

I am in the process of trying to write about my ‘shot on iPhone 6’ experience and I know the angle I will be taking. The story of how people whom I have been friends with online and some whom I have never met went out of their way to send me photos of my image on display in different locations or went and bought a publication and mailed it to me.
This is what Janine Graf did. She saw that my image was on the back of the New Yorker and she went, bought and mailed it to me. It arrived this morning and you know it is a great honour to have my photo on the back of such a prestigious and popular magazine, but what brought the biggest smile to my face was the little card Janine had put inside. Now, I am a big fan of Janine’s creative photography and have been for quite a while. So, to get a postcard of her winning image in last year’s Mira Mobile Prize is special in the package she sent me is really special.
Sure, I have the magazine and without doubt I am proud of that, but it is the story surrounding it which I will recall with pleasure in years to come.
Janine, you are a wonderful woman. I won’t forget this kindness.

Welcome

I am really delighted to have this website up and running and to have one place to showcase my photography. I have organised images into the the various projects I have been working on over the past few years and imagine as time goes on I will add to these and also create new galleries with new photography projects. That is the exciting thing; thinking about the new photographs I will get that will fill these pages here. I have tried not to separate the photographs in terms of those I shoot with the Apple iPhone 6 and the photographs with either the Nikon D7000 or the Fuji X100T. The reason being that I do not see a difference in terms of what I want to create. The iPhone camera or the other cameras ultimately all perform the same job.

So welcome! I hope you will continue to follow and support me here on my new website. I will be doing all blog posts from here and over time will leave photographicpunctuation.com. Thanks for the support; thanks for the inspiration!
